Chess Hair Privacy Policy

The short version
We're really not interested in collecting your personal data. We'll only ever collect the minimum amount of data necessary to make the service work for you. We'll never sell any of your data or provide it to 3rd parties. We don't currently have any tracking or analytics on the website and don't plan on adding any.
What we collect when you sign up
Chess Hair uses Lichess OAuth to create your account. We store your Lichess username and the OAuth token that lets us connect to Lichess on your behalf. The token is limited to the bare minimum scopes required for ChessHair to function. Currently this is engine:read and engine:write.
What we collect when you analyze
When you use the Chess Hair Cloud Engine, Lichess sends us analysis requests. We store these requests as well as the outcome of the analysis. This includes:
- The position (FEN) you're analyzing
- The best move and the last line of UCI output from the engine, including best move and continuations
- How many total nodes were evaluated
- Start and end time
- The speed of the analysis (nodes per second)
- The depth that was reached
We keep this data to improve the service, debug issues, and potentially build features like analysis history down the road.
We know many users will want to keep their analyses completely private, not visible even to us, and this is a feature on our roadmap.

What we don't collect
- Your email address (unless you give it to us separately)
- Your games on Lichess
- Your browsing activity
- Anything about you as a person, really, unless you share it with us.
Cookies
We use a single standard session cookie to keep you logged in. That's it. No tracking cookies, no analytics cookies, no third-party cookies.
Third parties
The only external service we interact with is the Lichess API. We don't use analytics services, advertising networks, or any other third-party tools that touch your data.
We will never sell your data
Chess Hair is a passion project, not a way to make a quick dollar however possible. Your analysis data will never be sold, rented, or provided to anyone else without your consent.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time. There's a big red button right on the home page when you're signed in. This button will permanently delete everything associated with your account, including all of your analysis sessions.

Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update this page. We're not going to make it worse. If anything, future changes would be about collecting even less.
What happens to my data if ChessHair shuts down?
Although we are dedicated to keeping this service alive, if it ever does end up shutting down, we will do our best to permanently delete any user related data, including analysis sessions, after providing exports to anyone who wants a copy of their data.
